Cameos and Guest Comics

I'm back! That means updates! They'll come soon, I promise.
Anyways, in addition to me being back, I had a bunch of oral surgery this morning. FUN!

Anyways, while I was gone, we got a (as you saw) several guest strips. The first comic was drawn by LibertyCabbage. The second one was drawn by our very own Sam! Yay! Meanwhile, the most recent one was drawn by Escushion. Thanks, everyone!
Additionally, Rachel had a cameo in Anywhere But Here by Jason Siebels. Thanks, man!

AND NOW, TO SCAN! AND BE IN PAIN!

Eep! No Time to Scan!

I'm going away for like a week tommorow. I have lined up some guest art for you while I'm gone. In fact, there'll be a comic by Sam sometime next week!
Now, I myself drew three comics. Sadly, I did not have enough time to scan them. So you'll have to wait until after I get back. I apologize!
Anyways, enjoy what you get in the meantime. The first guest comic comes up roughly noonish on Thursday. I'm terribly sorry about the wait, but I didn't get very many.

No Comic

Sorry, no comic today.

A New Method of Transcription

Something just occured to me. There's a far better and more effecient method of acquiring the transcripts than the method I'm using. Allow me to explain.
My current method to grab the transcript is as follows:
  1. Check if the user has JavaScript. If no, stop.
  2. If yes, grab the images off the page, make them invisible, and separate the image tags into an array.
  3. Make an IFRAME that calls up the transcript.
  4. The transcript file has its own JavaScript in it that, upon loading, sends messages to the main page. One message says the comic's name. Each of the rest contain the transcript of an individual frame.
  5. The system then writes the images back to the screen.
  6. When you click on "(Enable transcripts)", the system nukes the images and rewrites them to the page with the proper OnMouseOver events.
This can be improved to be as follows:
  1. Check if the user has JavaScript. If no, stop.
  2. If yes, grab the images off the page and separate the image tags into an array.
  3. Each page has its transcript in there, just invisible. The system ganks this off the page and flings it into an array.
  4. The system then applies the OnMouseOver events to the image tags.
  5. When you mouse over the image, a function checks to see if the transcripts are enabled. If yes, display the transcripts as usual. If not, don't.
I'll get this done at some point in the near future. First I need to finish all the transcripts, or it won't work. While I do this, I might as well add a cookie system to remember if you wanted the transcripts enabled or not. Furthermore, when I do this, I'll add in a version of the comic tagger. And once I get all this done, or possibly as I do it, I'll completely redesign the site, adding some additional pages (like a cast page) as I do so.
God, this'll be a lot of work.

Well, last night I had too much homework and stuff to be able to post the comic. I apologize. As atonement, I posted not only yesterday's comic, but today's as well. Enjoy.

Help Me Fix the Site!

Well, it has come to my attention that the transcript system doesn't seem to work on Macs. Since I don't have regular access to one, it's hard for me to diagnose and resolve the issue.
BUT WAIT! YOU CAN HELP!
As it turns out, I only know for sure that this works in Mozilla-based browsers and WinIE6. Therefore, I'm in need of information. So, if you find that the transcript system doesn't work in your browser, do me a favor and either reply to this post or email me (elyscape AT gmail DOT com). Make sure to tell me what OS you're using, what browser you're using, and said browser's version. Also, if your browser flings a JavaScript error at you, email that to me as well, along with all the details your browser provides.
Thank you!

Lacking a Comic

There will be no comic today because I:
1) Am lazy.
2) Cannot think of anything.
I'll try to get something up Wednesday.

Well, I forgot to scan for a while. BUT I GOT IT DONE! It's now in the update queue, so don't worry. It'll be up soon.

Forgetting to Update

Well, I have a comic ready and all. I just need to scan and post it.
I'll get that done today, I swear!
